
Brainspotting Therapy
Healing that goes beyond talk therapy
Have you had things happen in your past that still bother you, affect the way you live your life and how you are in your relationships?
We all have experiences buried deep in our brain that impact decisions we make in our daily life and in our relationships. You may even know what you should do but don’t do it or don’t feel you can do it. You may have tried talk therapy before but its not providing answers and after learning coping skills you still feel stuck.
For many of my clients who feel this way, through Brainspotting they gain clarity and understanding of themselves and their life.
Brainspotting is a type of therapy that goes deep into our subcortical brain in a way that talk therapy can’t accomplish. Talk therapy can only access the neocortex and the logical part of the brain. In Brainspotting, by gazing at a specific eye point in the visual field, this accesses the deeper parts of the brain where emotional pain and physical distress is stored.
The healing process can happen much more quickly in Brainspotting than in traditional talk therapy.
Powerful therapy that offers healing in a focused yet gentle way
Unlike talk therapy, with Brainspotting, you don’t have to talk about the details of your trauma to process and release your pain.
There’s no right way to do Brainspotting, or a particular set of steps you have to follow for it to work. Instead, we work together to locate the eye spot that corresponds to either the emotion and sensation around the issue you want to work on or finding the highest possibility within you for the way to a positive outcome. By gazing at the corresponding eye spot, you engage your midbrain, the superior colliculi, to reset your brain’s response to the memory so that it is not as distressing. During this process, you can talk as little or as much as you want. You are in control of this process. My role is to guide and support you through this in a gentle and nonjudgmental way.
After Brainspotting, the memory will still be there, but it can feel less emotionally and physically overwhelming, less like an open wound and more like an experience that is manageable.

I can contact your primary therapist to coordinate your treatment. Adjunct Brainspotting can be for a few sessions, several weeks, or for a few months.
