Get specialized therapy with a skilled therapist who can help you get unstuck and break the patterns that are running your life, to feeling more calm and living life with more confidence.

Hi I’m Vivian Hwang Daniel, a licensed therapist and expert on helping adults with chronic stress, imposter syndrome, burnout and complicated family relationships cope with our stressful world and more effectively resolve relationship conflicts in a way that aligns with your values.

I utilize a trauma-informed, responsive, and culturally attuned approach as we work together on healing from the exhaustion from over functioning by taking care of everything and everyone.

You can learn how to break generational patterns of overwhelm, grief, anger, shame, and guilt to create a happier and meaningful life that aligns with your personal values instead of a life based on what others think you should have, where you can more effectively communicate what you want and confidently say no to the things that you don’t want.

Many of my clients say that after specialized trauma-informed therapy where we use Brainspotting and IFS, they have clarity and are more confident in taking action to improve their life.

Answering your questions on what it is like to work with me

  • You have read the books, listened to the podcasts, watched the mental health TikToks in search of answers to why you feel tired, burned out, and alone.

Despite your outward successes, you experience self-doubt and shame spirals.

You know you should do more self-care, but you don’t have time with all your responsibilities. You take care of everyone else in your life before you take care of yourself.

Even after all your successes and achievements, it still doesn’t feel enough so you move the goal post by adding more to what you need to accomplish.

Your parents have high expectations of you and you don’t want to disappoint them. This makes talking, texting, or seeing them stressful.

  • I believe in your strength and resiliency even if you no one has ever told you this and at times you may not have felt this way about yourself. You have made it here despite what the world has thrown at you.

I am a warm and compassionate therapist.

I guide my clients with patience and a calm presence.

I teach my clients the science behind why they feel the way they do.

I provide research-based therapies that are brain and body centered. These types of therapy target both the thinking mind and the nervous system so that you can both logically understand and also physically feel the shift in your body.

I offer hope to my clients by helping them uncover their own inner wisdom and who they truly are meant to be. We do this by getting to know the inner critic, the caretaker, the people-pleaser, and other aspects of ourselves that work so hard in running our daily life.

I have specialized training in 10 different types of therapy modalities and blend these together. These include practical skills based ones like Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) or Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), inner child parts work of Internal Family Systems (IFS), somatic practices (body based tools of breathwork and movement rooted in traditional Asian practices and Western research on trauma), and neuroscience based trauma processing through Brainspotting.

I blend my lived experience as an Asian American eldest daughter of Taiwanese immigrants who grew up in the South and my clinical expertise from being licensed for over 20 years as mental health therapist.

You can check out a list of my advanced specialized trainings and find out more about my clinical experience here.

I am a collaborative therapist who supports you having choices in what your healing looks like. This means I am open to questions you have and feedback on what is working or not working for you in therapy. We can adjust therapy to what feels most helpful (offering a different type of therapy modality or a different format of therapy).

I can provide a referral to a couples or a family therapist if you would like additional support in your relationships.

If I am not the right fit for you (you need to see a therapist who accepts your insurance or a therapist who offers evening appointments), I can provide you with referrals to other therapists.

  • I offer virtual online telehealth appointments for those in Florida, Georgia, Illinois, North Carolina, and South Carolina and in-person appointments in my Atlanta, Georgia office.

I provide individual and group therapy as well as workshops for adults ages 18-64.

My individual therapy appointment times are Monday-Friday 10am-5pm Eastern Time and you can choose either 50 minute and 90 minute sessions depending on which works best for you.

My 75 minute therapy groups and 2 hour workshops are on weekday evenings and weekend mornings.

When you start therapy, I recommend meeting weekly as people generally start noticing improvements and feeling somewhat better (less overwhelmed and more capable of handling day to day stress) after 8-12 sessions.

After these initial sessions, we can meet weekly or every 2-weeks, depending on what is most beneficial for you as you continue to work on improving your relationships, and decreasing the intensity of your self-doubt and inner critic.

You can find out more about what you can expect in therapy on my FAQ page.

To protect your right to privacy of your sensitive medical and mental health information, I do not use AI to record or take notes during sessions. What you say in sessions remains private and protected.

Healing that goes beyond traditional talk therapy through a brain and body based approach with a certified Brainspotting therapist

Brainspotting is a powerful and innovative therapy that offers healing in a focused yet gentle way. It can be done as a stand alone approach or as an addition to other types of therapies.

Brainspotting is an evidenced-based therapy with research on its effectiveness in treating generalized anxiety as well as post traumatic stress. Olympic and professional athletes use Brainspotting to helped them improve their performance.

Healing happens not only cognitively in how you think, but in the nervous system with how you feel. Brainspotting is a way to process trauma without having to talk about it in detail.

  • Brainspotting is a cutting-edge, brain and body based therapy that bypasses the thinking brain by going deep into our subcortical brain which helps to unlock emotional pain and physical tension. The healing process can happen much more quickly in Brainspotting than in traditional talk therapy.

  • I listen to what you want to get from our sessions, whether it is to sort out an upsetting situation, figure out what to do about a relationship, or achieve a goal. Then I guide you to find the eye spot in your field of vision that accesses the area deep in your midbrain where chronic tension, anxiety, and emotional and blocks are stored that keep you stuck. As your brain and body focuses mindfully on this eye spot, you can talk as much or as little as you like during the process. This benefits you, as you have control of your therapy process and also decreases the risk of re-traumatization which can happen when there is continuous talk of traumatic memories.

  • Trauma: Whether the trauma was from a single incident or ongoing childhood trauma with attachment wounds, Brainspotting can help. In a 5 year study of those directly impacted by the Sandy Hook tragedy, Brainspotting was the most effective treatment.

Anxiety and panic: Brainspotting can uncover and resolve past experiences that contribute to symptoms.

Depression: Negative self esteem and shame can exacerbate depression. Brainspotting can strengthen the positive neural networks in your brain by providing a embodied felt experience of your own goodness and self-worth.

Imposter Syndrome: Brainspotting can target your self-doubt and help you feel the self-assurance of being good enough.

Perfectionism and Procrastination: Brainspotting can help when you are questioning yourself and procrastinating because you are afraid of not being perfect.

Performance: Brainspotting can help you resolve performance blocks and access your flow state. This is helpful not only for athletes, artists, writers, and performers, but anyone who wants to feel more confident and centered when they are in high pressure situations.

  • To become a certified Brainspotting therapist, I have undertaken rigorous training on the neuroscience of Brainspotting and also received clinical supervision on how to integrate my training to skillfully treat emotional pain and trauma. Beyond the certification requirements, I have also taken specialty Brainspotting trainings on how to work through mental blocks that get in the way of reaching your goals, as well as using Brainspotting to decrease shame and feel more supported and empowered to cope with life’s challenges.
